Its purpose is to provide an independent, accessible, responsive forum for the just resolution of disputes in order to preserve the rule of law and to protect all rights and liberties guaranteed by the United States and Virginia Constitutions.

COMMONWEALTH'S ATTORNEY
Represents the people of Virginia in prosecuting criminal violations, felonies, and Class 1 misdemeanors. The position is similar to that of the District Attorney in many other states. Enforces regulatory violations, the Voting Rights Act and conflict of interest law. Represents state agencies in county proceedings. The Commonwealth's Attorney is an elected office with a 4-year term.

CLERK OF THE CIRCUIT COURT
The Clerk of the Court is the official court administrator. She is responsible for recording deeds, issuing and recording marriage licenses, serving as probate judge, maintaining court files, preparing jury lists and issuing summons. The Clerk of the court is an elective office with an 8-year term.
