Septic & Well Fees
Applications to install a new well or septic system must be submitted to the county's Environmental Health Department before construction begins.

New Septic Only       $75.00
New Septic & Well    $115.50
New Well Only          $40.00
Repair Septic            No Fee
Replacement Well    No Fee

Construction Permits
Building Permits & Inspections
Permits are required for the construction of all buildings and permanent structures before work begins. Fees vary depending of the type of work to be performed. Failure to obtain a permit is subject to substantial fines.

Electrical Service
Permits are required for connecting temporary or new electrical service to any permanent building, structure or mobile home in the unincorporated area of the county.

Health Permits
Permits for the following sanitation related services and activities are issued through the County Health Department:
Restaurants and food service
Shellfish processing and handling
Public swimming facilities
Marinas
Campgrounds
Lodging facilities

Dance Hall Permits
Permits are required to operate a public dance hall within the county's jurisdiction. Permits are not required for dances held for benevolent or charitable purposes, or for establishments licensed to serve mixed alcoholic beverages by the Virginia ABC Board. Applications should be filed with the county's Zoning Administration office.

Waterway Markers
In order to promote safety and minimize interference between users of public water, a system of Uniform Regulatory Markers has been adopted by the state of Virginia. This system is administered by the Department of Game & Inland Fisheries and they are charged with the establishment of waterway markers. The local contact regarding this program is Sgt.
