County Property Records

Search and view current county property records online by owner name, parcel number or street. Property cards include owner name, address, map and account numbers, property legal description, Deed Book and page number references, use, year last assessed, assessment, itemized valuation, year built and remodeled, and detailed descriptions of improvements like materials, finishes, and the number, type and size of rooms.

Digital Online Maps

The Westmoreland County Online Geographic Information System (GIS) provides access to spatial datasets within a mapping platform.  The GIS database can be used to identify the physical location of property and may be searched by owner name, address, tax map/parcel or account number.  This multi-layer environment also includes tools that allow users to generate and share maps.

Online GIS

Land Records

The Clerk of the Circuit Court maintains land records dating back to 1653. They include deeds, deeds of trust, certificates of satisfaction, plats and other records that document the chain of land transactions over time. You may view and copy land records at the Clerk of the Court's office at 175 Polk Street in Montross, Monday-Friday, 9 am - 5 pm.

Vital Records

Certified copies of Virginia birth, death, marriage and divorce certificates are available through the Virginia Office of Vital Records. The Clerk of the Circuit Court records deeds and marriage licenses.

Your Tax Accounts

Go to the County Treasurer's Online Inquiry system to look up your real estate tax, personal property tax and view your real estate and personal property taxes paid by year.

Genealogical Research

The second floor of the Westmoreland County Museum houses the combined research collections of the Museum, the Northern Neck of Virginia Historical Society and the Henry Hungerford Library. Other materials of interest to researchers include microfilm of Virginia census records, vital records, parish and cemetery records, family histories, and most volumes of the Virginia Regimental Histories. Contact the museum for days and hours of operation. The Library of Virginia also has items relevant to Westmoreland genealogy among its collections.
