Westmoreland County offers many high quality options for public education. Westmoreland County Public Schools, an independent school division, operates four schools that serve more than 1,600 students in Westmoreland County and the Town of Montross. The Town of Colonial Beach operates an independent school division, Colonial Beach Public Schools.
All of the county's schools are accredited by the Commonwealth of Virginia and the Southern Association of Colleges and Schools.
Some students also may qualify for admission to these programs:
- Chesapeake Bay Governor’s School. A regional program for high-ability 11th and 12th grade students, featuring an emphasis on marine and environmental science.
- Northern Neck Technical Center. A regional school that prepares high school students to enter the workforce in fields that include healthcare, skilled trades, culinary arts and computer systems.
- Dual Enrollment at Rappahannock Community College. An opportunity to earn both high school and transferable college credits for coursework taken through RCC.
