If you are a citizen 18+, you are encouraged to get out and vote. Casting an election ballot is the best way to have a say in how your county, state and nation are governed.
In Westmoreland County, the General Registrar maintains all records related to voter registration and elections. The registrar works with a three-member Electoral Board that appoints election officers and certifies election results.
How to Register to Vote
Complete a voter registration application and return it to the Westmoreland County General Registrar at least 29 days before the election in which you plan to vote. If you mail your application, it must be postmarked at least 29 days before the election.
You can get your voter registration application at the Election Administration and Voter Registration (General Registrar) office, public libraries, the Department of Motor Vehicles, social service agencies and other state and local government offices. You can also get one online.
Your voter card will arrive by mail about two weeks after you submit your application. If your application cannot be accepted, the General Registrar will let you know why by mail.
When to Vote
- General Elections: Tuesday after the first Monday in November.
- Primary Elections: Varies.
- Special Elections: May be called at any time not within 60 days of a General Election but may be held on the same day as a General Election.
